Guide To Allergy Care
INITIAL VISIT
During the first visit a detailed allergy history is taken; an allergic physical examination is performed; and if indicated a set of skin tests will be done. This visit will take approximately one and one half hours. Due to the time involved, we request 24 hours notice if you must cancel or change this appointment.
After the initial visit is done, if further skin testing or lab work is indicated, you will be told at that time.
ALLERGY TESTING
Skin testing is primarily used to determine what you are allergic to. Medications containing antihistamines should not be taken for 48 hours prior to skin testing as they may prevent obtaining accurate results. All other medications can be taken (if unsure, please call the office). If needed to further evaluate your condition, blood tests, breathing tests, and/or x-rays may be ordered.
SUMMARY VISIT
After all allergy testing is complete, a summary visit is scheduled. At that time Dr. Sharma will review the results of all the tests that were done and discuss what form of treatment may be required.
